An Open Source Software (i.e. non-commercial, free software) will be deployed. This can be used by anybody in the world for free. If the project becomes an official project of the university of Krems, payment will have to be made for technical and consulting support. In the long-term the site can no doubt be transferred to a Nepalese server. |
20. Nov. 04
- Meeting between Mr Burg and J. Buchanan and E. Schreitmüller in Zürich. Subsequent removal of password access to permit public access to the site for any interested persons. At the meeting Mr Burg, who has experience of similar projects, expressed the following. He feels that it is essential to establish a core group that is willing to drive the project. The majority should ideally be from Nepal. Only a brainstorming meeting will give the project the momentum that it needs. The meeting would be held to advantage in Nepal so that the participants can acquaint themselves with the circumstances there.
30. Sept. 04
- Richard Meinig, spine surgeon, Colorado, www.meinig.com reacted to the invitation to join us by writing “I do wish to participate and wholeheartedly.”
2. Oct. 04
- Dr. M. A. Wajid FRCS, FRCS Ed (Tr & Orth), Professor & Consultant, Karachi, Pakistan wrote “all glory comes from daring to begin”. “The success of this project will have far-reaching ramifications and obviously being part of the project will allow me to follow it closely and will certainly be beneficial.” The idea of including experts from other countries is to create leaders who will then build similar projects of their own in their own countries based on the Nepalese model.
6. Oct. 04
- Dr. A. Zolotov, orthopaedic surgeon, Spassk Town Hospital, Russia, www.drzolotov.narod.ru Dr. Zolotov is an expert in hand surgery, for example. He has won scolarships and worked in Vienna. He would actively contribute to the project by offering his experience. He wrote “Most likely the medicine in Spassk is similar to Nepal medicine. I agree with your proposal because your project is very interesting.”
30. Oct. 04
- Olaf Bach, Edinburgh, posted his contribution to the Feasibility Discussion to the website. He has experience of working in Africa and the Solomon Islands. He is happy to contribute and share to the best of his ability. He expresses the need to know more about the specific situation in Nepal.
Nov. 04
- Dr. Shah solicited the participation of 5 surgeons at the main medical centers in Kathmandu. Also, the participation of Mr Michael Laurence, who is on the editorial board of Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery [Br], and a reliable supporter from WOC-UK.
L. Audige
- We have the offer of free but limited support from an epidemiologist who will be happy to assist in the planning and evaluation of clinical studies.
Early support
- DDr. Christoph Leiggener, Maxillofacial surgeon in Basel. Very interested in participation. He proposes that a person like himself could give perhaps one hour a week to answer questions online, to assist in the preparation of papers for publication, to spend time in Nepal along with other medical associates from Basel, e.g. 2–3 week blocks, to teach, assist, discuss etc. It is his opinion that many clinics would be prepared to send surgeons to render such services.
Dr. E. Schreitmüller
- Great interest in general medicine and eager to participate. She is very interested in the broad implementation of health care where it is most needed.
J. Buchanan
- Editor, translator, see attached CV and acknowledgement in LCP journal.
The intention is to invite two more participants, a physician in Basel and another in Germany to complete the core group outside Nepal.
